POPULARITY

American sign language is the 273rd most popular degree in America, with 532 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #274 Electromechanical Instrumentation and Maintenance Technologies, and narrowly lost to #272 Physician Assistant Studies.

The degree is offered at a total of 46 colleges across the nation, and is the 286th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 2% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that just over 83.3% of colleges offering american sign language are public making it a very accessible field.

The southeast produces the most american sign language graduates, largely led by Troy University, while it’s the Sun Belt Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, New York ranks highest, with particular help from Keuka College and Rochester Institute of Technology.

All that being said, no individual school produces more american sign language graduates than Phoenix College, which graduated 44 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study american sign language). More students studied american sign language as a percentage of total students at William Woods University than any other college.
