SOCIOLOGY DEGREES
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES
Sociology is an especially in-demand college subject. The standard course of study grants 6,156 yearly four-year degrees; 29,920 people earned four-year degrees in sociology last spring, making it the country's 20th most popular subject for college students. 658 of those students attended a single college, the University of California-Los Angeles, and 8,009 of those degrees were conferred at institutions in California.
It is likely not easy to decide the best institution, due to the fact that undergrad degrees in sociology are available at 997 institutions across the country. When compared to the average subject, there are 5.2 times as many schools offering undergraduate degrees in sociology, making it the 17th most broadly available major in the country.
GRADUATE DEGREES
While 94% of degrees in sociology last May were four-year degrees; 6% were postgraduate degrees. Sociology is the 81st most popular postgrad degree in the nation, with 2,068 degrees granted. To put that in context, the average subject is 34% more popular among postgrad students than sociology.
In Total, 31,988 students received a bachelor's or higher in sociology last May.
ONLINE SOCIOLOGY DEGREES
981 of those 31,988 students (3.1%) came through online programs - 843 undergrad students and 138 postgrad students. As you've likely gleaned by now, sociology is a relatively in-demand online major. It is now the 38th most popular remote major with 75.1% more remote students than the average subject. For postgrads, it ranks 118th, and is 77.6% under the nation's average (616).
Arizona State University-Skysong awarded more online bachelor's degrees in sociology than any other school in the nation (150). Last fall, 33,410 undergrads were attending the school remotely, 97% of their student body. They offer 54 remote focuses, which is 93% of their subjects.
Furthermore, Arizona graduates more sociology online students than any other state (162 bachelor's degrees granted last year). By itself, Arizona graduates 19% of the United States' remote students.
Only 2.8% of all four-year degrees in sociology are completed remote, (6.7% for advanced degrees). The University of Florida-Online's last undergraduate class contained a higher percentage of online sociology majors than any other college in the US (6.53%). 39 students in their 597 student class were awarded an online four-year degree in sociology. They offer 100% of their areas of study remotely, and had 3,926 enrolled online undergraduate students last fall. That's 100% of the student body.
82 schools in the USA offer four-year degrees via fully remote programs, making it the 17th most broadly available remote major in the United States. 8% of colleges conferring the degree even have a remote option, and 65% of the schools providing the degree online are public. The remaining 35% are private. Missouri has the most entirely remote programs of any state, with 6 schools to choose from.
If you want to study sociology online, we recommend you consider applying to the University of Florida, as it has the 32nd best sociology program in the country. They also have an additional 67 degrees completely online, so their systems are probably pretty good. Further, they have 1,029 remote college students, which is 3% of their whole student body.
