RELIGIOUS STUDIES DEGREES
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES
Religious studies is not a super highly demanded major. On average, each major gives out close to 6,156 bachelor's degrees per year; 3,941 people last May completed a bachelor's degree in religious studies, making it the 97th most popular area of study across the nation. 795 of those degrees were awarded at a single college, Liberty University, and 916 of those undergrads came out of colleges from Virginia.
It can often be hard to track down the right program, as 640 schools nationally have an undergraduate degree in religious studies. In comparison to the typical course of study, there are 3.3 times as many colleges offering undergrad degrees in religious studies, making it the 30th most widely available degree in the nation.
GRADUATE DEGREES
While last May, 79% of degrees in religious studies were undergraduate degrees; 21% were postgraduate degrees. Religious studies is the 120th most popular postgrad degree in the United States of America, with 1,066 degrees granted. For some context, religious studies is 62% less popular among postgrad students than the average subject.
In Total, 5,007 students received a bachelor's or higher in religious studies last spring.
ONLINE RELIGIOUS STUDIES DEGREES
877 of those 5,007 students (17.5%) did their learning remotely - 716 undergrad students and 161 postgrads. As you likely can see, in general, religious studies is a touch more popular than the average online major among undergrads. It is presently the 41st most popular online major with 48.7% more online students than the average subject. For postgrads, it is ranked 110th, and is 73.9% under the American average (616).
Liberty University awarded 557 online bachelor's degrees, more than any other American school. Last fall, 34,092 undergrads were attending the college completely remotely, 72% of their student body. They offer 30 exclusively online concentrations. That's 33% of their programs.
Further, Colleges from Virginia granted the most online four-year degrees in religious studies last May (558). Virginia alone accounts for 78% of the country's remote students.
18.2% of all bachelor's degrees in religious studies are completed remote, (15.1% for advanced degrees). 14.21% of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's last undergraduate class studied religious studies comprehensively online, higher than any other institution in America. 21 students in their 150 student class completed an online undergrad degree in religious studies. 51 institutions nationally award undergraduate degrees in an entirely remote program, making it the 30th most widely offered remote American degree. 8% of schools furnishing the degree even have a remote option, and private colleges handing out undergraduate degrees in religious studies outnumber public institutions 3.8 to 1. If you want to study religious studies and are serious about online schools, you may want to look at Andrews University, as it has the 20th best religious studies program in the US.
