UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES
Music is much more in-demand than most majors in America. The average subject grants 6,156 undergraduate degrees per year; 15,747 students were awarded a four-year degree in music last spring, making it the 33rd most popular major countrywide. 623 of those students attended one college, Berklee College of Music. 1,507 of those undergrads went to colleges in California.
1,086 institutions in the US award a bachelor's degree in music; consequently, choosing the best institution for you frequently won't be easy. There are 5.7 institutions offering undergrad degrees in music for every college offering the average degree, making it the 15th most universally offered US degree.
GRADUATE DEGREES
While 68% of last May's degrees in music were undergrad degrees; 32% were grad degrees. Music is the 31st most popular postgraduate degree in the United States, with 7,440 degrees granted. For context, grad degrees in music are 2.7 times more popular among master's & doctor's students than the average discipline.
In Total, 23,187 students received a bachelor's or higher in music last spring.
ONLINE MUSIC DEGREES
467 of those 23,187 students (2%) earned their degrees fully remotely - 349 undergraduates and 118 postgrad students. As you can see, music is not a particularly highly demanded online subject. It's the 70th most in-demand remote degree with 27.5% less remote students than the average subject. For postgrads, it ranks 124th, and is 80.8% below the US average (616).
Full Sail University awarded more online four-year degrees in music than any other U.S. institution (206). Last fall, 14,908 undergrads were enrolled in the school exclusively remotely, 75% of their students. They offer 31 comprehensively online disciplines, which is 76% of their subjects.
Additionally, Florida graduates more music online students than any other state (209 undergrad degrees conferred last year). The state accounts for 60% of the focus' online students.
Only 2.2% of all undergraduate degrees in music are completed in entirely online programs, (1.6% for advanced degrees). Berklee College of Music's last undergraduate class contained a higher percentage of online music majors than any other American college (8.22%).
There are 15 colleges nationwide with a fully remote undergraduate degree in music, making it the 15th most commonly offered remote major in the USA. Only one one-hundredth of colleges offering the degree even have an online option, and 53% of the schools offering the degree remotely are private. Florida has more remote programs than any state, with 2 institutions located there.
