JOURNALISM DEGREES

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES

A lot of undergraduate students decide to focus on journalism. The standard area of study awards 6,156 bachelor's degrees per annum; 12,988 students last spring received an undergrad degree in journalism, making it the US' 37th most popular discipline. 533 of those degrees were conferred at the University of Missouri-Columbia, which proudly has the biggest department in the United States of America, and 1,091 of those undergraduate students attended school in California.

It is likely difficult to track down the right institution, because 392 schools countrywide award undergrad degrees in journalism. There are 2 schools offering undergrad degrees in journalism for every college offering the average degree, making it the 58th most broadly available major.

GRADUATE DEGREES

While 89% of degrees in journalism last spring were undergraduate degrees; 11% were postgraduate degrees. Journalism is the 92nd most popular postgraduate degree in the USA, with 1,567 degrees awarded. To put that in context, the average subject is 77% more popular among postgraduate students than journalism.

In Total, 14,555 students received a bachelor's or higher in journalism last year.

ONLINE JOURNALISM DEGREES

224 of those 14,555 alumni (1.5%) came through remote programs - 70 undergrads and 154 postgrad students. As you presumably know by now, journalism is an especially unpopular online course of study. It's at the moment the 137th most popular online degree, and 85.5% below the national average of 481 students per discipline. For postgrads, it ranks 112th, and is 75% under the US average (616).

Ashford University awarded more online undergraduate degrees in journalism than any other institution in the United States (50).

Moreover, Colleges from California granted the most online four-year degrees in journalism last year (54). By itself, the state graduates 77% of the area of study's remote students.

Only 0.5% of all four-year degrees in journalism are completed via an exclusively online program, (9.8% for advanced degrees). 0.79% of Ashford University's last undergraduate class majored in journalism remote, higher than any other U.S. institution. 50 students in their 6,318 student class completed an online undergraduate degree in journalism. They offer 58 programs exclusively online, and had 26,914 enrolled online undergraduates last fall. That's 100% of the student body.

There are 9 schools nationwide with a completely remote college degree in journalism, making it the 58th most widely offered remote focus in America. 2% of schools furnishing the degree even have a comprehensively online option, and 56% of schools with the degree online are private. California has the most remote programs of any state, with 2 institutions to choose from.

If you hope to study journalism entirely remotely, you might want to apply to Ball State University, as it has the 98th best journalism program in the US. It also gives out an additional 112 degrees fully online, so you can try out classes inside other courses of study. Moreover, they have 759 remote college students, which is 5% of the student body.
