UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES

College students majoring in general studies are all over the country. The average subject confers 6,156 yearly undergrad degrees; 14,691 students earned an undergraduate degree in general studies last spring, making it the 36th most popular area of study across the country. Southern New Hampshire University​ awarded more of those degrees than any other school in the nation (769), and institutions in Texas handed out more degrees than any US State (2,527).

Undergrad degrees in general studies are offered at 413 institutions across the nation; ipso facto, it could likely be challenging to choose the best program for you. At the undergraduate level, general studies is 2.2 times more widely offered than the average subject, making it the 53rd most commonly offered American degree.

GRADUATE DEGREES

While 99% of last May's degrees in general studies were undergrad degrees; 1% were postgraduate degrees. General studies is the 260th most popular grad degree in the country, with 184 degrees granted. For some context, the average subject is 15.1 times more popular among postgrad students than general studies.

In Total, 14,875 students received a bachelor's or higher in general studies last spring.

ONLINE GENERAL STUDIES DEGREES

2,419 of those 14,875 graduates (16.3%) did their school work comprehensively remotely - 2,376 undergrad students and 43 postgrads. As you can probably see, general studies is a very in-demand online college focus. It's the 16th most in-demand online degree with 4.9 times the American average of 481 undergrads per major. For graduate students, it ranks 172nd, and is 93% south of the national average (616).

Southern New Hampshire University​ conferred the most online bachelor's degrees in general studies in the nation (719). Last fall, 86,849 undergraduate students were enrolled in the institution remotely, 93% of their student body. They offer 35 online subjects. That's 56% of their majors.

Further, New Hampshire graduates more general studies online students than any other state (719 undergraduate degrees granted last spring). By itself, New Hampshire accounts for 30% of America's online students.

16.2% of all undergrad degrees in general studies are completed in a remote program, (23.4% for postgraduate degrees). 54.02% of the University of Arkansas System eVersity's​ last undergraduate class studied general studies comprehensively remote, higher than any other American college. 47 students in their 87 student class were granted an online undergraduate degree in general studies. 119 schools nationwide offer undergrad degrees comprehensively online, making it the 53rd most universally available remote area of study. Narrowly north of two out of every seven colleges handing out the degree even have an online option, and 46% of the institutions providing the degree online are public. Oklahoma has the most fully remote programs of any state, with 8 colleges to choose from.
