CINEMATOGRAPHY DEGREES
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES
Cinematography is not an exceedingly in-demand subject. Each subject awards close to 6,000 four-year degrees a year; last May, 4,877 students earned an undergrad degree in cinematography, making it the 84th most popular concentration around the country. 460 of those degrees were conferred at a single college, Emerson College. 949 of those alumni went to colleges in California.
It will frequently be hard to decide the right institution, given that bachelor's degrees in cinematography are available at 155 institutions around the country. 19.2% fewer institutions offer bachelor's degrees in cinematography than the typical major, making it the 119th most widely offered U.S. subject.
GRADUATE DEGREES
While last spring, 82% of degrees in cinematography were undergraduate degrees; 18% were postgrad degrees. Cinematography is the 121st most popular master's or doctor's degree in America, with 1,042 degrees conferred. To put that in context, the average subject is 2.7 times more popular among postgrads than cinematography.
In Total, 5,919 students received a bachelor's or higher in cinematography last spring.
ONLINE CINEMATOGRAPHY DEGREES
105 of those 5,919 alumni (1.8%) did all their schooling remotely - 63 undergraduates and 42 postgrad students. As you've presumably gathered, very few undergraduates decide to study cinematography online. It's now the 143rd most in-demand online degree, and 86.9% shy of the nation's average of 481 students per course of study. For postgrads, it is ranked 173rd, and is 93.2% under the nation's average (616).
Grand Canyon University awarded more online undergraduate degrees in cinematography than any other institution in the United States of America (29). Last fall, 40,001 college students were attending the college online, 68% of their students. They offer 38 online fields, which is 61% of their curriculum.
Furthermore, Colleges from Arizona conferred the most online undergraduate degrees in cinematography last May (29). Arizona single-handedly accounts for 46% of the subject's remote students.
Just 1.3% of all undergraduate degrees in cinematography are completed via a comprehensively remote program, (4% for grad degrees). Academy of Art University's last undergraduate class had the most dense population of online cinematography majors in the United States (2.48%).
7 schools around the nation grant bachelor's degrees in exclusively online programs, making it the 119th most broadly available remote degree. Only 1/20 of schools handing out the degree even have a fully remote option, and 43% of the schools that have the degree remotely are public. The remaining 57% are private. Florida has the most online programs of any state, with 2 institutions to choose from.
If you hope to study cinematography fully remotely, you may want to think about Academy of Art University, as it has the 59th best cinematography program in the United States of America. It also awards an additional 103 degrees online, so their systems are likely reliable. Further, they have 2,911 online undergraduate students, which is 43% of the total undergraduate population.
