CHEMISTRY DEGREES

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES

College students studying chemistry are ubiquitous. A typical area of study hands out 6,156 undergrad degrees a year; 15,395 people last spring were awarded a college degree in chemistry, making it the country's 34th most popular major. The University of California-San Diego accounted for more of those degrees than any other U.S. college (247), and colleges in California accounted for more degrees than any U.S. State (1,779).

Finding the best fit probably won't be easy, since bachelor's degrees in chemistry are offered at 1,172 colleges coast-to-coast. Undergraduate degrees in chemistry are offered at 6.1 times more schools than the typical course of study, making it the 10th most broadly available subject in the USA.

GRADUATE DEGREES

While 74% of last year's degrees in chemistry were bachelor's degrees; 26% were graduate degrees. Chemistry is the 38th most popular master's or doctor's degree in the US, with 5,423 degrees granted. For context, chemistry is 95% more popular among master's or doctor's students than the average major.

In Total, 20,818 students received a bachelor's or higher in chemistry last year.

ONLINE CHEMISTRY DEGREES

35 of those 20,818 graduates (0.2%) completed exclusively online programs - 4 undergraduate students and 31 graduate students. As you can tell, chemistry is an especially unpopular online subject. It's currently the 238th most popular remote course of study with 99.2% less online students than the average subject. For master's or doctor's students, it ranks 187th, and is 95% south of the American average (616).

Park University awarded the most online undergraduate degrees in chemistry in the country (2). Last fall, 5,473 undergraduate students were attending the institution online, 57% of their student body. They offer 22 remote majors, which is 49% of their curriculum.

6 schools countrywide award undergrad degrees in online programs, making it the 10th most widely available remote degree. Less than 1% of the schools providing the degree even have an online option, and 33% of the colleges with the degree online are public. The other 67% are private.

If you desire to study chemistry remotely, you might want to consider Eastern Washington University, as it has the 532nd best chemistry program in the United States. They also grant an additional 62 degrees remotely, so you can sample classes inside another discipline. Furthermore, there are 486 online undergrads attending, which is 5% of the whole student body.

PARTIALLY ONLINE CHEMISTRY DEGREES

  • Chemistry is the 39th most popular partially online undergrad degree in the US
  • Chemistry is the 8th most broadly offered partially online college degree in the country
  • 21.12% of all undergrad degree in chemistry are completed partially online
  • The University of Florida granted more partially online undergraduate degrees in chemistry than any other school in the United States of America (80)
  • Chemistry is the 46th most popular partially online master's or doctor's degree in the US
  • The typical field is offered partially online at more or less 154 colleges

IN-PERSON CHEMISTRY DEGREES

  • 12,128 people earned an undergrad degree in chemistry in-person last year
  • Undergrad degrees in chemistry are offered entirely in-person at 156 institutions across the country
  • Last spring, 16,943 people earned a bachelor's or higher in chemistry in-person
  • 10.38% of Xavier University of Louisiana's last undergraduate class majored in chemistry totally in-person, higher than any other US school
  • 4,815 students were granted comprehensively in-person graduate degrees in chemistry last year
  • On average, each major had about 4,293 totally in-person four-year degrees last spring
