POPULARITY

Voice and opera is the 307th most popular degree in America, with 355 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It narrowly lost to #306 Biology Teacher Education.

The degree is offered at a total of 97 colleges across the nation, and is the 170th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 8% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that about two out of every nine colleges offering voice and opera are public making it a relatively inaccessible field.

The mid east produces the most voice and opera graduates, largely led by Rider University, while it’s the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, New York ranks highest, with particular help from The New School and The Juilliard School.

All that being said, no individual school produces more voice and opera graduates than Florida State University, which graduated 42 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study voice and opera). More students studied voice and opera as a percentage of total students at Manhattan School of Music than any other college.
