POPULARITY
Urban studies is the 207th most popular degree in America, with 1,102 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #208 Family and Community Services, and narrowly lost to #206 Social Psychology.
The degree is offered at a total of 102 colleges across the nation, and is the 163rd most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 18% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that 60% of colleges offering urban studies are public making it a quite accessible field.
The far west produces the most urban studies graduates, largely led by University of California-Berkeley, while it’s the Ivy League that leads conference totals. As far as states, California ranks highest, with particular help from University of California-Berkeley and University of California-Irvine.
All that being said, no individual school produces more urban studies graduates than University of Delaware, which graduated 54 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study urban studies). More students studied urban studies as a percentage of total students at Barnard College than any other college.
