POPULARITY

Teaching english as a second language is the 305th most popular degree in America, with 365 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #306 Biology Teacher Education, and narrowly lost to #304 Retailing and Retail Operations.

The degree is offered at a total of 82 colleges across the nation, and is the 196th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 1% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that barely over 2/5 of colleges offering teaching english as a second language are public making it a pretty accessible field.

The far west produces the most teaching english as a second language graduates, largely led by University of Hawaii at Manoa, while it’s the East Coast Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, Puerto Rico ranks highest, with particular help from Inter American University of Puerto Rico-Arecibo and Inter American University of Puerto Rico-Ponce.

All that being said, no individual school produces more teaching english as a second language graduates than University of Alabama at Birmingham, which graduated 26 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study teaching english as a second language). More students studied teaching english as a second language as a percentage of total students at Concordia University-Nebraska than any other college.
