POPULARITY

Systems engineering is the 233rd most popular degree in America, with 834 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #234 Multimedia Art, and narrowly lost to #232 Ecology.

The degree is offered at a total of 28 colleges across the nation, and is the 349th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 6% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that 68% of colleges offering systems engineering are public making it a quite accessible field.

The southeast produces the most systems engineering graduates, largely led by University of Florida, while it’s the Southeastern Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, Virginia ranks highest, with particular help from George Mason University and University of Virginia-Main Campus.

All that being said, no individual school produces more systems engineering graduates than University of South Alabama, which graduated 127 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study systems engineering). More students studied systems engineering as a percentage of total students at United States Merchant Marine Academy than any other college.
