POPULARITY

Substance abuse and addiction counseling is the 288th most popular degree in America, with 469 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #289 East Asian Studies, and narrowly lost to #287 Music Therapy.

The degree is offered at a total of 37 colleges across the nation, and is the 312th most widely offered degree. It is not offered at any of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that a tad under 83.3% of colleges offering substance abuse and addiction counseling are public making it a very accessible field.

The southwest produces the most substance abuse and addiction counseling graduates, largely led by Grand Canyon University, while it’s the Western Athletic Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, Arizona ranks highest, with particular help from Grand Canyon University and Ottawa University-Phoenix.

All that being said, no individual school produces more substance abuse and addiction counseling graduates than Gadsden State Community College, which graduated 110 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study substance abuse and addiction counseling). More students studied substance abuse and addiction counseling as a percentage of total students at Ohio Christian University than any other college.
