POPULARITY
Native american studies is the 341st most popular degree in America, with 241 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #342 Sculpture, and narrowly lost to #340 Astrophysics.
The degree is offered at a total of 53 colleges across the nation, and is the 268th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 6% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that in the region of 9/10 of colleges offering native american studies are public making it a very accessible field.
The far west produces the most native american studies graduates, largely led by Humboldt State University, while it’s the Big West Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, Hawaii ranks highest, with particular help from University of Hawaii at Hilo and University of Hawaii at Manoa.
All that being said, no individual school produces more native american studies graduates than Honolulu Community College, which graduated 29 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study native american studies). More students studied native american studies as a percentage of total students at Haskell Indian Nations University than any other college.
