Music teacher education is the 108th most popular degree in America, with 3,264 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #109 Microbiological Sciences and Immunology, and narrowly lost to #107 Health and Wellness.

The degree is offered at a total of 542 colleges across the nation, and is the 37th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 16% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that just about 3/7 of colleges offering music teacher education are public making it a pretty accessible field.

The southeast produces the most music teacher education graduates, largely led by Florida State University, while it’s the Big Twelve Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, New York ranks highest, with particular help from Ithaca College and SUNY at Fredonia.

All that being said, no individual school produces more music teacher education graduates than Holy Names University, which graduated 165 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study music teacher education). More students studied music teacher education as a percentage of total students at Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico than any other college.
