POPULARITY
Mechanical engineering technology is the 149th most popular degree in America, with 2,036 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #150 Plant Sciences, and narrowly lost to #148 Women's Studies.
The degree is offered at a total of 65 colleges across the nation, and is the 230th most widely offered degree. It is not offered at any of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that 93% of colleges offering mechanical engineering technology are public making it a very accessible field.
The great lakes produces the most mechanical engineering technology graduates, largely led by Ferris State University, while it’s the Mid-American Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, New York ranks highest, with particular help from CUNY New York City College of Technology and Rochester Institute of Technology.
All that being said, no individual school produces more mechanical engineering technology graduates than Barstow Community College, which graduated 189 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study mechanical engineering technology). More students studied mechanical engineering technology as a percentage of total students at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology than any other college.
