POPULARITY
Information technology is the 43rd most popular degree in America, with 11,399 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #44 Computer Engineering, and narrowly lost to #42 Chemical Engineering.
The degree is offered at a total of 334 colleges across the nation, and is the 68th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 7% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that 64% of colleges offering information technology are public making it a quite accessible field.
The southeast produces the most information technology graduates, largely led by University of Central Florida, while it’s the American Athletic Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, Florida ranks highest, with particular help from University of Central Florida and Florida International University.
All that being said, no individual school produces more information technology graduates than Tuskegee University, which graduated 810 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study information technology). More students studied information technology as a percentage of total students at Renton Technical College than any other college.
