POPULARITY
Industrial and product design is the 170th most popular degree in America, with 1,583 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #171 Speech-Language Pathology, and narrowly lost to #169 Medical Records Administration.
The degree is offered at a total of 62 colleges across the nation, and is the 237th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 2% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that in the region of three in five colleges offering industrial and product design are public making it a pretty accessible field.
The great lakes produces the most industrial and product design graduates, largely led by College for Creative Studies, while it’s the Atlantic Coast Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, New York ranks highest, with particular help from The New School and Pratt Institute-Main.
All that being said, no individual school produces more industrial and product design graduates than GateWay Community College, which graduated 100 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study industrial and product design). More students studied industrial and product design as a percentage of total students at College for Creative Studies than any other college.
