College is a supremely productive time of one's life; it is an opportunity for individual progress and maturation. Scholars start to figure out who they wish to become and cultivate many of the rudimentary skills to become a flourishing member of society. But learning is more than sitting in a classroom - the late nights discussing Camus with a classmate, the wild anecdote learned from a tenured instructor, the exposure to a different life experience. As such, a diverse college experience tremendously enriches what one gains from the time at university.

Hispanic-American Studies is a more popular major among students of color than white students. Latino students account for a higher percetage of Hispanic-American Studies majors than any other subject. 95% of the US' Hispanic-American Studies majors are latino students, followed by students of other races**(4%), white students (1%), and asian students (0%). The most ethnically diverse college* in the top 100 is Pepperdine University located in Malibu, CA.

Secondly, Hispanic-American Studies significatly skews female, with just about three out of four students majoring in Hispanic-American Studies identifying as women. The most gender balanced school in the top 100 is San Diego State University in San Diego, CA.

Another critical type of diversity is economic diversity. Sadly, Hispanic-American Studies is less economically diverse than 96% of programs in America. 38% of its majors come from homes taking in under $30,000 a year, 17% are from middle income homes, and 20% grew up in lower middle>income families. Sonoma State University has the most fiscally diverse student body in the top 100.

Considering each type of diversity, overall CA is the most diverse state for Hispanic-American Studies. The Far West is the most diverse region, and the West Coast Conference is the most diverse conference.
