POPULARITY
Game and interactive media design is the 188th most popular degree in America, with 1,275 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #189 Allied Health and Medical Assisting Services, and narrowly lost to #187 Food Science.
The degree is offered at a total of 87 colleges across the nation, and is the 189th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 4% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that a bit greater than four out of every nine colleges offering game and interactive media design are public making it a pretty accessible field.
The southwest produces the most game and interactive media design graduates, largely led by Abilene Christian University, while it’s the American Southwest Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, Texas ranks highest, with particular help from Abilene Christian University and The University of Texas at Dallas.
All that being said, no individual school produces more game and interactive media design graduates than Mesa Community College, which graduated 208 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study game and interactive media design). More students studied game and interactive media design as a percentage of total students at The Art Institute of Austin than any other college.
