If you think life as a runway designer, male fashion editor, or runway process engineer sounds interesting, then a degree in fashion design may just be for you. You could even become the head designer at Gucci!
Fashion design is the 153rd most popular degree in America, with 1,917 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #154 Architectural Technology, and narrowly lost to #152 Illustration
The degree is offered at a total of 80 colleges across the nation, and is the 200th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 2% of the Top 100 Best Collegesin America.
It is also worth noting that 50% of colleges offering fashion design are public making it a pretty accessible field.
The mid east produces the most fashion design graduates, largely led by Montclair State University, while it’s the Mid-American Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, New York ranks highest, with particular help from The New Schooland Fashion Institute of Technology.
All that being said, no individual school produces more fashion design graduates than Phoenix College, which graduated 270 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study fashion design). More students studied fashion design as a percentage of total students at Moore College of Art and Designthan any other college.
