POPULARITY

Elementary education and teaching is the 21st most popular degree in America, with 29,618 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #22 History, and narrowly lost to #20 Sociology.

The degree is offered at a total of 951 colleges across the nation, and is the 18th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 14% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.

It is also worth noting that hardly north of four ninths of colleges offering elementary education and teaching are public making it a pretty accessible field.

The southeast produces the most elementary education and teaching graduates, largely led by University of Central Florida, while it’s the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association that leads conference totals. As far as states, Utah ranks highest, with particular help from Brigham Young University-Provo and Utah State University.

All that being said, no individual school produces more elementary education and teaching graduates than University of West Alabama, which graduated 1494 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study elementary education and teaching). More students studied elementary education and teaching as a percentage of total students at American Samoa Community College than any other college.
