STUDENTS
College often can be a supremely impactful period of one's life; it's a chance for individual progress and evolution. Undergrads try to find out who they can be and build the indispensable skills to become a halcyon member of society. But learning goes far beyond a classroom - the campus dialogue, the wild anecdote learned from an eccentric professor, the exposure to a different way of viewing the world. As such, a diverse student body vastly improves what you gain from your time at college.
Education is a less ethnically diverse focus than average*. 67% of the United States' Education majors are white students, followed by latino students (13%), students of other races**(8%), and asian students (6%). The most racially diverse college* in the top 100 is Brown University in Providence, RI.
In addition, Education significatly skews female, with around 7 in every 9 students majoring in Education identifying as women. The most gender balanced school in the top 100 is Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA.
Another significant type of diversity is economic diversity. Education is close to average for socioeconomic diversity (57th percentile). 31% of its students come from households making over $110,000 a year, 16% are from mid-income households, and 23% grew up in homes with a sub $30,000 annual income. Ball State University has the most socioeconomically diverse student body in the top 100.
Considering each type of diversity, overall CA is the most diverse state for Education. The Far West is the most diverse region, and the West Coast Conference is the most diverse conference.
