ENGINEERING DEGREES

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES

Engineering is a very popular undergraduate focus. On average, each course of study awards close to 6,200 yearly four-year degrees; 128,724 students were conferred undergrad degrees in engineering last spring, making it the 3rd most popular subject in the country. Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus accounted for 2,194 of those degrees (#1 in the United States of America). Schools in California granted more degrees than any American State (14,467).

674 schools in America award undergrad degrees in engineering; accordingly, singling out the right institution for you could be tricky. Undergrad degrees in engineering are offered at 3.5 times more colleges than the typical field, making it the 28th most universally offered degree.

GRADUATE DEGREES

While 68% of last year's degrees in engineering were four-year degrees; 32% were postgraduate degrees. Engineering is the 3rd most popular graduate degree in the United States of America, with 61,571 degrees conferred. For context, grad degrees in engineering are 22.2 times more popular among postgrad students than the average area of study.

In Total, 190,295 students received a bachelor's or higher in engineering last May.

ONLINE ENGINEERING DEGREES

5,407 of those 190,295 students (2.8%) completed their studies completely remotely - 395 college students and 5,012 master's or doctor's students. As you can see, engineering is not a very in-demand online area of study. It's at the moment the 63rd most popular remote degree with 17.9% less online students than the average subject. For postgraduate students, it's ranked 9th, with 8.1 times the average number of master's & doctor's students per subject (481).

Arizona State University-Skysong awarded 163 online bachelor's degrees, more than any other institution in the US.

Additionally, Colleges from Arizona granted the most online undergrad degrees in engineering last year (180). By itself, Arizona accounts for 46% of the major's online students.

Just 0.3% of all four-year degrees in engineering are completed online, (8.1% for advanced degrees). Arizona State University-Skysong's last undergraduate class had the most dense population of online engineering majors in the country (3.45%). 163 students in their 4,737 student class were awarded an online undergrad degree in engineering. They offer 93% of their degrees remote, and had 33,410 enrolled online undergraduate students last fall. That's 97% of the student body.

There are 32 schools around the nation with a remote college degree in engineering, making it the 28th most commonly available online American area of study. One in every twenty colleges offering the degree even have an online option, and 50% of the colleges that have the degree online are public. The other 50% are private. Florida heads up the nation in providing online options, with 5 of the programs headquartered there.

If you dream to study engineering and are skilled at time management, you may want to think about Clemson University, as it has the 52nd best engineering program in the US. They also award an additional 48 degrees remotely, so their systems are likely dialed. Moreover, there are 91 online undergrad students attending.

PARTIALLY ONLINE ENGINEERING DEGREES

  • Last year, 29,019 students completed bachelor's degrees in engineering partially online
  • Partially online undergrad degrees in engineering are offered at 568 institutions coast-to-coast
  • 22.54% of all undergraduate degree in engineering are completed partially online
  • Capitol Technology University's last undergraduate class had the most dense population of partially online engineering majors in the United States (33.17%)
  • Last May, 61,571 students completed partially online grad degrees in engineering
  • On average, each subject had about 1,368 partially online four-year degrees last May

IN-PERSON ENGINEERING DEGREES

  • Last year, 98,777 students earned bachelor's degrees in engineering in-person
  • 74 institutions around the country have four-year degrees in engineering entirely in-person
  • 76.74% of all bachelor's degree in engineering are done in-person
  • Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus granted more exclusively in-person undergraduate degrees in engineering than any other U.S. institution (2,153)
  • California graduates more engineering majors in-person than any other state (11,589 bachelor's degrees awarded last May)
  • The average fully in-person area of study gives out 6,102 annual bachelor's degrees or higher

ENGINEERING OVERVIEW

An engineering degree from a reputable online school can open doors to high-paying jobs and careers in multinational companies across industries. Engineering students from competitive online accredited programs can enjoy jobs like these when they graduate:

  • Systems Engineer
  • Software Engineer
  • Biomedical Engineer
  • Electrical and Chemical Engineer
  • Aerospace Engineer
  • Computer Hardware Engineer
  • Big Data Engineer

Engineering is a fascinating subject with different areas of specialization. And throughout history, engineers have created infrastructures that improved our daily lives, from bridges to automobiles and electricity.

Engineers solve problems and develop solutions for various sectors, including the health industry, technology, aeronautics, and the military.

Modern technological advancements in robotics and data mean more engineering roles for new graduates in diverse fields. As a result, the demand for software and engineering skills is high.

The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed the creation of over 140,000 new engineering jobs between 2016 to 2026. In addition, studies showed how data engineering roles increased by 40% in the past few years.

Engineers are among the highest-paid professionals worldwide, with an average annual starting salary of over $70,000.  Job posts from ZipRecruiter, Indeed, and Glassdoor show higher pay scales for data and software-related engineering roles.

The increasing demand for software products and technology means engineers can:

  • Design innovative solutions
  • Tackle climate change problems
  • Develop, test, and manage mechanical devices
  • Design and troubleshoot production processes of chemical and biological products.

You can enjoy job security and career satisfaction with an engineering degree from an online accredited college.
