BIOLOGY DEGREES

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES

Biology is an exceedingly popular undergraduate subject. On average, each major grants roughly 6,156 yearly undergrad degrees; last May, 82,869 students received an undergrad degree in biology, making it the 7th most popular subject coast-to-coast. 941 of those degrees were conferred at one college, the University of South Florida-Main Campus. 8,143 of those alumni came out of colleges from California.

Four-year degrees in biology are available at 1,399 institutions nationally; accordingly, it could be challenging to choose the best college. When compared to the typical area of study, there are 7.3 times as many schools offering undergraduate degrees in biology, making it the 4th most commonly available area of study in the USA.

GRADUATE DEGREES

While last May, faintly north of nine in ten degrees in biology were undergraduate degrees; 9% were advanced degrees. Biology is the 28th most popular postgrad degree in the US, with 8,103 degrees awarded. To put that in context, postgrad degrees in biology are 2.9 times more popular among postgrads than the average discipline.

In Total, 90,972 students received a bachelor's or higher in biology last year.

ONLINE BIOLOGY DEGREES

686 of those 90,972 graduates (0.8%) came through totally remote programs - 389 undergrads and 297 postgraduate students. As you can probably see, biology is not the most popular online area of study, but it isn't the least popular either. It's now the 65th most in-demand remote concentration, and 19.2% shy of the American average of 481 students per subject. For postgrads, it ranks 80th, and is 51.8% under the US average (616).

Florida International University awarded the most online four-year degrees in biology in the country (167). Last fall, 10,922 college students were enrolled in the college online, 22% of their students. They offer 36 remote areas of study, which is 46% of their majors.

Further, Colleges from Florida awarded the most online undergraduate degrees in biology last spring (202). By itself, Florida graduates 52% of the major's online students.

Only 0.5% of all undergraduate degrees in biology are completed online, (3.7% for postgrad degrees). 5.4% of Bay Path University's last undergraduate class majored in biology online, higher than any other American institution. 15 students in their 275 student class earned an online four-year degree in biology. They offer 18 programs entirely remote, and had 870 enrolled online undergraduates last fall. That's 48% of the student body.

18 schools nationwide grant four-year degrees via remote programs, making it the 4th most widely available online major in the nation. 1% of institutions providing the degree even have an entirely online option, and 61% of institutions with the degree online are private. Arizona leads the nation in providing online choices, with 3 of the programs located there.

If you would like to study biology comprehensively remotely, we recommend that you apply to the University of Florida, as it has the 23rd best biology program in the country. It also supplies an additional 67 degrees fully remotely, so their systems are probably solid. Additionally, 1,029 remote undergrad students study at the school, which is 3% of their undergraduate population.
