 ### UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES

 Creative writing is not an incredibly in-demand subject. The typical major grants 6,156 undergrad degrees per year; 3,226 students last year were awarded an undergraduate degree in creative writing, making it the US' 110th most popular major. 399 of those degrees were awarded at [Southern New Hampshire University](/colleges/southern-new-hampshire-university), which has the biggest department in the USA. 415 of those undergrads came out of institutions from New Hampshire.

 It could potentially not be easy to pick the right program, as 256 institutions across the nation grant undergraduate degrees in creative writing. 33.4% more institutions offer four-year degrees in creative writing than the average subject, making it the 87th most broadly available U.S. major.

 ### GRADUATE DEGREES

 While 51% of degrees in creative writing last year were undergrad degrees; 49% were graduate degrees. Creative writing is the 64th most popular postgraduate degree in the country, with 3,149 degrees conferred. To put that in context, creative writing is 14% more popular among graduate students than the average course of study.

 ### ONLINE CREATIVE WRITING DEGREES

 515 of those 6,375 students (8.1%) were awarded their degrees online - 386 college students and 129 postgrad students. As you can see, among online undergrads, creative writing is neither exceedingly popular nor uncommonly unpopular. It is the 67th most popular remote degree, and 19.8% south of the national average of 481 students per field. For postgrads, it's ranked 120th, and is 79.1% below the national average (616).
