POPULARITY
Homeland security is the 128th most popular degree in America, with 2,452 students receiving their bachelors degree last year. It just beat out #129 Dental Hygiene, and narrowly lost to #127 Sales and Merchandising.
The degree is offered at a total of 100 colleges across the nation, and is the 165th most widely offered degree. It is only offered at 1% of the Top 100 Best Colleges in America.
It is also worth noting that 59% of colleges offering homeland security are public making it a pretty accessible field.
The southeast produces the most homeland security graduates, largely led by Eastern Kentucky University, while it’s the Pacific-12 Conference that leads conference totals. As far as states, West Virginia ranks highest, with particular help from American Public University System and Auburn University at Montgomery, which graduated 534 students last year alone. Although size is critical, another important factor to consider is the program’s density (the percent of all students that study homeland security). More students studied homeland security as a percentage of total students at Truckee Meadows Community College than any other college.
